Filmfestival Münster 2025 // Call for Entries

The 21st edition of the Filmfestival Münster will take place from September 19 to 28 at the Schloßtheater Münster. Submissions for the two central competitions are now open. This year, for the fourth time, the European Feature Film Competition is exclusively for debut films. The traditional short film competition, which has been at the heart of the festival for more than 40 years, is once again open to productions from all over Europe. The deadline for both competitions is June 1, 2025.

European First Feature Film Competition
In the European Feature Film Competition, eight fictional feature films from European productions will be invited. Films will be selected that give new impetus to European cinema and impress with their extraordinary narrative style or visual language. Young filmmakers are invited to present their first film produced for the cinema in Münster. An international jury will award a prize for the best directorial work (endowed with 5,000 euros).

European Short Film Competition
For the fourth time, this competition is being held for the whole of Europe. All genres, themes and forms of expression are welcome – narrative, documentary, animated, experimental, even music videos – the competition thus paints a lively picture of the current short film scene in Europe. Both a jury and the audience will select their favorites, which will be awarded with prizes for young talent (endowed with 3,000 euros (jury) and 1,000 euros (audience)).

Submissions can only be made via FilmFreeway:
